WiFi "Signal" is Blocked by Aquarium
4.5
You have a large fish tank between your router and your office, and the signal is terrible.
Symptoms
- Weak signal
- Dead zone behind tank
- Slow speed
Possible Causes
- Water absorbs WiFi signals (2.4GHz)
Step-by-Step Fix
1
Move the Router High
Get the router above the water level of the tank.
2
Use a Mesh Node
Place a node on the same side of the tank as your devices.
3
Switch to 5GHz
While water still absorbs it, 5GHz might find other paths (reflections) better.
When to See a Technician
Water is the ultimate WiFi killer. A large tank is essentially a wall of lead for wireless signals.
