Phone "Face ID" Not Working with Sunglasses
4.5
Your phone fails to unlock when you are wearing sunglasses, even though it works fine without them.
Symptoms
- Unlock failed
- Passcode required
- Infrared blocked
Possible Causes
- Polarized lenses
- IR-blocking coating
- "Require Attention" enabled
Step-by-Step Fix
1
Disable "Require Attention"
Settings > Face ID & Passcode > Toggle OFF "Require Attention for Face ID". (Note: slightly less secure).
2
Set Up an "Alternative Appearance"
Scan your face while wearing the sunglasses.
3
Try Non-Polarized Glasses
Some polarized coatings are opaque to the infrared sensors used for Face ID.
When to See a Technician
Face ID uses infrared dots; if your sunglasses block IR light, the phone can't see your eyes to "verify attention".
